Former Ducks to Play on NBA Summer League Teams

Former Oregon men’s basketball standouts Malik Hairston, Luke Jackson, Maarty Leunen and Bryce Taylor have or will participate in the 2009 NBA Summer League schedule. The Orlando Pro Summer League started on July 6 (concludes on July 10) at RDV Sportsplex in Maitland, Fla., while the Las Vegas Pro Summer League is a scheduled for July 10-19 at Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.

“Those four guys accomplished some amazing things here at the University of Oregon,” head coach Ernie Kent said. “They had tremendous growth here, and I’m happy that they are able to pursue their career goals of playing professional basketball.”

Hairston, a Duck from 2004-08, is listed on the San Antonio Spurs summer league roster, a team he recently inked a new deal with. He played in 15 games with the Spurs during the 2008-09 season, averaging 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. The 6-6, 220-pound forward finished his UO career with 1,644 points (sixth in school history) in 117 career games.  Click here to hear his thoughts on re-signing and the upcoming summer schedule.

Jackson, who played at UO from 2000-2004, is a member of the Dallas Mavericks summer league squad. He has played in 73 career NBA games in five seasons, playing with the Cavaliers, the Clippers, the Raptors and most recently with the Heat. Jackson totaled 1,970 career points (126 games) which ranks second all-time at Oregon.

Leunen, at Oregon from 2004-08, is to play with the Houston Rockets summer league team in Las Vegas. He was a second-round draft selection (No. 54 overall) of the Rockets back in 2008. Leunen spent last season in Turkey playing for Darussafaka C.Tires Istanbul, where he averaged 31 minutes, 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. The 6-9 forward finished his collegiate career with 1,259 points in 127 games with the Ducks.

Taylor, who played with the Ducks from 2004-08, was listed on the Boston Celtics’ roster for the Orlando Pro Summer League. Taylor amassed 1,435 points in 117 career games at Oregon.
